I grew up the daughter of a United States Marine. My dad served for 6 years in the 1970s. As a father, he was stern, tough, organized and disciplined and I know he developed a lot of these traits during his time in service.
Growing up, I resented him for being hard on me and my sister. I resented him for pushing me physically, mentally and emotionally. My childhood was not one for the meek.
Today, I am grateful to my dad. I see the things he learned in the military were passed on to me. Hard work, team work, leadership, discipline and the attitude of never giving up have served me well as a widow, solo mama, coach and entrepreneur. I’m not sure where I would be if he hadn’t prepared me so well for my very own battles.
Today, I thank my dad. He helped mold and shape me into a woman I’m starting to be proud to be.
Who in your life helped shape you? How has their guidance helped to get you where you are today? How can you honor them by going out and BEING GREAT?
